Opening Review Activity: EdPuzzle on Situational Irony
In Google Classroom, please complete the edpuzzle on situational irony.
Instruction:
In order to establish some context and orient you in the timeline of the book, I will tell you that this passage occurs right after Montag has called for the "Emergency Hospital." He arrived home to find his wife unconscious. Kicking an empty "crystal bottle of sleeping pills" gives Montag a hint as to what caused her condition.
-Do a first reading in order to figure out what the the text says. Write a SOMEBODY-WANTED-BUT-SO-THEN summary of the passage.
-In your group, compare your summaries.
-Complete a second reading in order to figure out how the text works. Look for IRONY, FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE, and CHARACTERISTICS OF DYSTOPIAN LITERATURE.
-Individually write your thinking (no matter how crazy you think it might be).
-Share your thinking with your group. Did you think about why Bradbury used the situational irony and figurative language that he did? Did you note any dystopian characteristics?
-Be prepared to share. I will use the random selector.
****Please complete the reading for reading #2 for homework tonight****
