1) Debates will take place during the 90-minute Finals period on either Tuesday 5/31 or Wednesday 6/1. You may also be asked to debate on 5/30.
2) Here is the Group Debate Format:
Round 1:
Team PRO Speaker 1………… 1 minute

- Restates their chosen side
- Presents the team’s second major point (support for side) including evidence
- Restates their chosen side
- Presents the team’s second major point (support for side) including evidence
Crossfire………………2 minute maximum
- BOTH teammates can participate by posing questions to the opponent and/or making a counterargument
- Nothing from Round 1 can be brought up again
PRO Speaker 2: You have 1 minute to wrap your debate up.
CON Speaker 2: You have 1 minute to wrap your debate up.
3) When grading, I will be considering the following items:
- Evidence – Did the student use research from SIRS and relevant, sufficient and valid evidence?
- Confidence- Does the speaker make eye contact and show preparation?
- Knowledge- Can the student participate in Crossfire or are they unaware of the other side’s argument?
