opening activity: Start reading around page 137. Read quickly to review. You are going to figure out why Golding interrupts one scene in order to go to another one.
group practice: talk about it and take notes Prompt: Why do you think Golding interrupts the scene featuring Simon to return to Ralph on the beach on page 138 before going back to Simon at the end of the chapter? What purpose does this ordering of events achieve? Does it create tension/suspense or mystery?
independent practice: now that you have discussed the intertwined event with your group, please take those ideas and do the following:
*create a claim about the intertwined event (yellow) *provide evidence to back up your claim (green) *create a warrant (orange)
